And of course as soon as I seen it, I seen the potential!
So, first I sanded it down. It was real wood so it didn't take much.
Took out the drawers and hardware.
I like to Spray Prime all my furniture projects. I think it helps the finished product turn out better and bolder!
I chose black for this piece. And the mini rollers are a life saver! You won't have streaks.
We had to make some type of supports to hold the shelves. Alot of projects haven't required this step. But as I have done plenty of furniture projects I have figured out that every piece is built differently.
Then we cut the bead board to size. And nail into place. Then I distressed "sanded" down the edges and along the wood pieces.
I then took an old rag and dipped it into the stain. Rubbed it on the bead board and then gently wipe it off. You can repeat this step till you get the tint you want. Remember to throw the rag you use away. Do not reuse on another project at another time.
And repeat on the outside over the sanded areas. But you shouldn't have to wipe off. Because if its real wood then it soaks into the wood.
After your all finished, spray the finishing top coat. I like the spray Shellac. It doesn't turn yellow. And really the only problem I've had with that was on white pieces.
Let me know whatcha you all think!?!! Comments make my day!
Ahhhhhhhh!!!! I love it!!! This is beautiful!!!!! Your amazing lady ;-)

I absolutely love how this turned out. Normally I go white with everything, but recently I did a black dresser and am in total love with how it turned out. I sort of wish I would've distressed as much as you did with this...it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank You!! I knew my friend wanted it distressed and I ran with it! Thank You for stopping and commenting!

Hi, my name is tracy. Weve recently boight a house tjats about 30 yeara old and let me tell you it is outdated. It has tje real wood stained golden colored kitchen cabinets. I have a western theme with lile a teal blue in my kitchen. I really like the grayish wood cabinets (im guessing a certain stain?) But ive seen some tjat are distressed with a teal color, wjich wood go great with the kitchen. Ove looked all over pinterest and tje internet b ut cant find a tutorial anywhere. Any advice or sugestions? Or links? Sorry about any spelling errors, these toichscreen phones can be ignorant sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI would sand them down to bare wood, then use a good primer (not cheap). Then paint on your teal color. Over that paint your gray color, maybe 2 coats. Sand them down till you get the desired teal showing through the gray. Similar to this project. Then I would use a light colored stain. Because you can always go darker if you don't like. Then deff use a shellac or poly on top to help with wear and tare. Hope that helps!

So pretty. We have a console in our den - our television and a stereo are sitting on it - that is the ugliest green color. I want to re-do it, but I'm not sure how. Probably red or white paint. I love how you've clearly spelled out the techniques you used here.
ReplyDeleteI hope it helps you redo yours! I try and make it easy to follow so everyone can try for themselves. Red or white pieces turn out really well too! Thank YOU! And thanks for stopping by!

That came out really cool! I've had a rocking chair that I found sitting on the curb that I have wanted to do the same thing to for months now but I am such a non-DIYer (lol) but maybe I can do it...your steps actually make it seem pretty simple. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAwesome I hope I helped inspire you! Thanks for stoppin over!!

Honestly, I don't like the distressed look on 99% of furniture, but the neutral tones you used make it look so good! It doesn't look like it's just old, it looks like an actual design. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! And thanks for coming over and checking it out!!
Deletewow...way to go babe! I love what you did...I wish I was that creative. Happy SITS Day

DeleteI love this. We always like to find old pieces or things to re do. I'll keep my eye out for a piece with good bones to paint like this. I've always wanted to do that kind of distressed black look. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kate! All you need is good bones to make a cool great looking piece!! Thanks for coming over to check it out!

DeleteThis piece really turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThank You Adrienn!
DeleteHappy SITS Day! I love what you did with that dresser! I keep buying old furniture from the thrift shop, antique stores, and garage sales in hopes of redoing it as you did with the dresser. I just don't have time (or skill)! LOL So for now, I'm just a hoarder. Happy SITS day!
ReplyDeleteGracielle from MommyA-Z.com
Thank You! Yeah I tend to pick up furniture and then it turns into a hoarders paradise. Or at least until my hubby gets on me about the garage being too full. LOL Sorry for late response. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI love this piece! The distressed black looks great, and the beadboard adds a cool contrast. Thanks so much for sharing this at Throwback Thursday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen!
DeleteThis was my feature at this week's Throwback Thursday party- Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen!! Made my day!!
DeleteThis is really great, and what a good use for an old dresser. Love the beadboard and the contrast. I have one just like it, but still need to use it as a dresser. Any ideas about how to hide/transform those indented drawer pulls?
ReplyDeleteThis is great. What a good use for an old dresser, love the contrast and the distressing. Do you have any thoughts about how to transform the indented drawer pulls on a dresser like this. I have one that I want to redo, but I need to use it as dresser still.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! What did you use to sand it with....paper, sander?
