DIY Floating Pallet Deck
Over the course of the summer we couldn't decide how to landscape around our fire Pit. Did we want to do pavers and pea gravel or deck..... choices choices.
Until an old friend of mine contacted me and asked if I wanted some pallets he had on hand. He knew I have done several projects with em, so who better than Muah to give em too! As soon as I laid my eyes on these beautiful pallets I knew exactly what I was gonna do.
Floating Deck!
James had built our fire pit into the ground vs above ground.
The hard part was laying them out and trying to figure out where each should go.
It was a family affair! Christian even wanted to help. Well, I think he just wanted an excuse to use some power tools. LOL
All of them are screwed and nailed together, so they aren't going no where.
And here ya have it!!
It's not all the way complete yet. We have some landscaping to do around it but that will hafta wait till Spring!
And can you believe it.....FREE!
We just needed to get out hands dirty!
I figure if we get even 2 years outta this, it was free!
Whatcha think???!!??

Pretty smart use of free pallets, I'd say!

Thanks Marie!!
DeleteLove that floating pallet deck! Great job you two!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen!! I'm kinda proud of this one too!
DeleteDid you take pallets apart to get the wood to fill in the blanks on them, or just use "new" wood? Lots of work, but very pretty.
ReplyDeleteNot these pallets came as is! All the boards were close together. They are not your typical pallet you find outside a grocery store. Thanks for checking them out Deborah!
DeleteThis is wonderful - love the idea and it looks great! Good job! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissy

DeleteI am insanely impressed you did a whole deck out of pallets! Great job! This would be great to link to Create It Thursday #23…it's live now! Hope to see you there!
ReplyDeleteThanks Leslie!! I linked it on up!! Thanks for the invite!
DeleteThis is so cool! We need an area in our back yard (built a new home), but have been looking for an idea that's somewhat temporary while we save up for something more permanent... This is great! Now - to find pallets that are suitable! Pinning! Julia
ReplyDeleteBe picky when selecting pallets. They are not all the same. Some look good but are a pain in the butt when you start working with em. Thanks for checking it out! Good Luck!!
DeleteWhat a super fabulous outcome! It really looks so cool, like a patchwork hardwood floor! I admit to trying this but my pallets weren't sturdy enough. Thanks for proving it can work with the right ones! :)
ReplyDeleteI've featured you on I Love That Junk and various other places. Thanks for linking up!
Thanks Donna! I'm soo stoked that you features this project!!!! Heck I'm just glad you found it among alot of great projects out there!
DeleteDid you sand and stain them?
ReplyDeleteNot yet, But plan to before winter hits!
DeleteI love this! We used pallets, too, to make our deck but only used them for the framing. I like the pallets you found, they look sturdy and its nice that they don't have huge gaps between the planks. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Audra! Thanks for checking them out!!
Deletevisiting you from Dream to reality. This is awesome. I love the look.
ReplyDeleteThank You!
DeleteBeautiful Plank Idea!! <3 <3 <3 It!!!! =) Now if only I can find some in that good of shape would be nice..
ReplyDeleteDo you happen to know what these originally were used for crating? I'd like to go right to the source in my area that has this type. Thanks for sharing, Chastity @ www.backroadtraveller.blogspot.com
Thanks Chasity, I believe they came from a paper factory of some type. Thanks for checking it out!
DeleteLove, love, love this! Thanks for sharing! Stop by my Friday's Five Features this week and link up this post (and others)! http://diy-vintage-chic.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWill Do Becca!!!
DeleteLOVE this look and using pallets....especially free ones!! You guys did a great job! We have an area we want to make into a 2nd firepit area, but it's on a slope with lots of rock. Right now, we plan to use crushed granite, I'd love to use pallets; however, I think it would be a ton of work to level it up enough for the pallets to be level. Glad I found your blog. Looking forward to your new projects.
ReplyDeleteHey thanks Susan!!! Yeah I think I agree with ya, really difficult on a slope and all the work that would involve. Thanks for stopping checking my deck out!! I'm heading over now to pay a visit!

ReplyDeleteI just started following your blog from the DIY Sunday Showcase and this post caught my eye. How truly original, creative and beautiful of a deck that was that you created. I love the recycled part of course and how the different patterns came out! This deck is perfect for that walkout basement or ranch home! This is now another reason I am not happy with my garden level basement, my deck is on stairs!! Glad to be following you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rae! I want to extend it out and make a pathway from our patio to the fire pit area. But that may have to wait till Spring! Thanks for stopping by!!!
DeleteGreat job! Looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly!!!
DeleteThank you
ReplyDeleteThis is a fab idea for our back yard, which becomes a muddy mess in winter and a rock hard desert in summer, If we use the pavers we have now to lift it a bit to level it all out we'll have a fab area. (PS we are from New Zealand and love our upcycling recycling)
All the way to New Zealand your pallet deck has reached...I love this idea, and having a house that comes with my husbands job I want to do things but not spend our money, if it lasts 2 years I'll be happy too,
ReplyDeleteThank you
What measures, if any, did you take to ensure the pallets were level to each other?
