DIY Pallet Deck





DIY Floating Pallet Deck

Over the course of the summer we couldn't decide how to landscape around our fire Pit. Did we want to do pavers and pea gravel or deck..... choices choices.

Until an old friend of mine contacted me and asked if I wanted some pallets he had on hand. He knew I have done several projects with em, so who better than Muah to give em too! As soon as I laid my eyes on these beautiful pallets I knew exactly what I was gonna do.

Floating Deck! 



James had built our fire pit into the ground vs above ground.


The hard part was laying them out and trying to figure out where each should go.


It was a family affair! Christian even wanted to help. Well, I think he just wanted an excuse to use some power tools. LOL

All of them are screwed and nailed together, so they aren't going no where.


And here ya have it!! 
It's not all the way complete yet. We have some landscaping to do around it but that will hafta wait till Spring!








And can you believe it.....FREE!
We just needed to get out hands dirty!

I figure if we get even 2 years outta this, it was free!

    Did you take pallets apart to get the wood to fill in the blanks on them, or just use "new" wood? Lots of work, but very pretty.

      Not these pallets came as is! All the boards were close together. They are not your typical pallet you find outside a grocery store. Thanks for checking them out Deborah!

    This is so cool! We need an area in our back yard (built a new home), but have been looking for an idea that's somewhat temporary while we save up for something more permanent... This is great! Now - to find pallets that are suitable! Pinning! Julia

      Be picky when selecting pallets. They are not all the same. Some look good but are a pain in the butt when you start working with em. Thanks for checking it out! Good Luck!!

    What a super fabulous outcome! It really looks so cool, like a patchwork hardwood floor! I admit to trying this but my pallets weren't sturdy enough. Thanks for proving it can work with the right ones! :)

    I love this! We used pallets, too, to make our deck but only used them for the framing. I like the pallets you found, they look sturdy and its nice that they don't have huge gaps between the planks. Enjoy!

    LOVE this look and using pallets....especially free ones!! You guys did a great job! We have an area we want to make into a 2nd firepit area, but it's on a slope with lots of rock. Right now, we plan to use crushed granite, I'd love to use pallets; however, I think it would be a ton of work to level it up enough for the pallets to be level. Glad I found your blog. Looking forward to your new projects.

    I just started following your blog from the DIY Sunday Showcase and this post caught my eye. How truly original, creative and beautiful of a deck that was that you created. I love the recycled part of course and how the different patterns came out! This deck is perfect for that walkout basement or ranch home! This is now another reason I am not happy with my garden level basement, my deck is on stairs!! Glad to be following you!

    This is a fab idea for our back yard, which becomes a muddy mess in winter and a rock hard desert in summer, If we use the pavers we have now to lift it a bit to level it all out we'll have a fab area. (PS we are from New Zealand and love our upcycling recycling)
