My friend Mel scored this cabinet off of Craigslist for a whoppin $5! She wasn't sure about getting it at first...but good thing I got an "eye" for good pieces!
First we took the doors off, sanded, primed, and painted.

And then we headed to Menards, because I had an idea!
I seen these Back splash Panels and was really wanting to use them on a project! They look metal but they are plastic! So it was really easy to cut down to size.

We then used liquid nails to attach the panel pieces.

Hey! I followed your comment on my Rub a Dub post (http://ryanandtobi.blogspot.com/2013/07/rub-dub.html) to your site, and the first thing that popped up looked so familiar I had to comment. My dad made a credenza very similar to the piece your friend bought. My sister wound up with it and I wasn't jealous until she made it over into an adorable coffee bar! I'll have to share this link with her, b/c your take is equally cute! Here's a link to hers: http://ntyrordinarysmith.blogspot.com/2013/06/coffee-bar-reveal.html
