And so the plates were hung.....finally

So I finally got around to hanging the plates I've been collecting via thrift shops. I kept spacing off buying plate holders and decided I'm just gonna hafta figure something out. So I dug into my craft supplies and this is what I found....

As you can see I paid 50cents for the plate. Some scrap felt that I had left over, some wire and E6000 Adhesive. I put a pretty good amount of adhesive on the plate, then laid the wire in it. Cut a piece of felt (excuse the not so perfect cut LOL) and glued that down over the wire. 

Even though that adhesive is strong I still was skeptical, so I broke out the hot glue gun and reinforced! 

As you can see, one plate came with a wire holder. But lets cross our fingers this all holds up! 

Ready for a Winter Wrap UP!

It's the middle of March and spring is knockin on the door! The snow is starting to disappear. YEAH! I'm itching to get out in the garage, re-organize and begin to start working! 

I haven't had alot of time to work on projects this winter. Sniff Sniff! We have however accomplished to get our kitchen remodeled for the most part. Just can't agree on the color countertop! Grrrr. But not a big deal it'll get done. I will post some pics soon.

This winter has seemed soo busy with our youngest son Jaylen and wrestling. The season started for him in October, a loooong season. Practice 3-4 nights a week and weekends traveling to tournaments. Whew, almost done! It was his 1st year and might I say he came along way. He did only win 1 match all season but he still made mama proud!

And our oldest Christian....well high school has really pushed my parenting buttons (if that makes sense). I struggle to keep him on task with homework. Anyone out there have any ideas??? It's so exhausting to have to check his classes/grades daily just to see what assignments he did or did not do. Actually it makes me wanna pull my hair out in frustration sometimes.  

 This year he joined the ROTC program. They had a military ball last month and what a production!! They go all out for that special evening. It was like a prom for the military. All the young men looked soo handsome in their blues.

So until the weather gets a little warmer, I'll just hafta keep track of projects I can't wait to get started on!

So I follow and love the show "Junk Gypsies". Their story and what they do. Deffinately a dream job! So of course I had to order a few things! And I found the perfect spot for one of my stickers and had to share with ya! 

My Sweet Craigslist Finds

So I'm cruising craigslist looking for a glass cabinet. I think I had found one, so I went and checked it out. And it was not what I needed. Bummer..... But the lady was moving and asked if I was interested in a dresser. I thought why not! So she opens this garage, and I see the wheels on the legs. And I'm thinking SCORE! A beautiful antique dresser! I asked the lady how much, and I'm thinking she's gonna say hundreds or something. $5!!! SOLD!!!! 

The age, the worn character of it! I was in love! The top was the only thing I needed to do.

So I grabbed one of my helpers and started working!!

I think someday I will sand it all down and refinish it. But right now, I love the character of it! So a trip to Menards and found a ceiling tile. Cut it to size and VIOLA! 

Then I seen this beautiful window buried under old doors and I asked if I could see and would she sell it? So she's pulling it out and I'm in complete shock! I kept thinking please please be only missing one window of two..... Nope Perfect! How much...$5!!

So then I couldn't help but notice these poor looking old table legs. She said they had been there laying outside her garage since they  had moved there. Take em! I had no idea what I was gonna do with them but what the heck.....

A coat of paint and some pallet board pieces! It was perfect for the little wall and don't take up alot of space.

Simple Bathroom Update....when they all left

One morning I decided after the boys left for school and work, I was gonna paint the bathroom. Just a simple little update. But it's amazing what a coat of paint can do!

There was an old medicine cabinet that probably been there since the house was built. It had to go!

And after.......

Sure wish I had a before picture of the mirror, forgot of course. It was a nasty dirty gold frame. I spray painted it with this pretty blue. And now it's new again!

Another Goodwill find, these were gold framed mirrors. Just spray painted!

The day I got my First Jigsaw!

So my sister and I were out doing our Friday garage sale "junkin" and I found a older Craftsman Jigsaw! It looked liked it had been used ALOT, but I figured "what the heck, it's only $5" so I bought it. I had quite a few pallets out back, so I started hacking err..I mean sawing! And low and behold.....A PALLET BENCH!

And after this......I made a few more! Quite a few actually!

Had to paint this one inside, because it was only 5 degrees out that day. This one was for my friend Jen. She had just built a new house and wanted it for her entry way!

This was for my neighbor on his 50th Birthday! It was perfect for his ManCave!!

My First Furniture Project!

This was my first furniture project that I tackled. My husband had these 2 old dressers since he was a kid. You know, the old 70's dark wood?? He wanted to donate them to Goodwill but of course it "sparked" an idea in me! I told him let me try something and if it don't work, well then we are only out the cost of paint.

The color was Jamacian Blue from Lowes. Which I love! I WILL be making another piece in this color!


I just sold this piece. And I will have to admit, it was kind of sad to see it go. But I knew after I re-did this dresser....it was on! Bring on the furniture projects!

Our DIY Wedding April 2012,

Our Wedding.....What a beautiful day! This day meant so much to us. I made almost everything myself from bouquets to table linens. Every detail was thought of. I wanted it to be personal and romantic. So from the day we were engaged, I started shopping! I hit every thrift store and clearance bin. There were a lot of days and nights spent in my basement with my bridesmaid Melissa putting it all together. And it was all perfect!

The story behind my red Cowgirl boots....... I had lost my dad almost 2 years prior. And his favorite color was RED and he had the most hideous red shoes that he had worn the last maybe 10 years? I had gave him a hard time not too long before he passed about it being time to get new ones. And his response "I haven't found any that I liked yet" Keep in mind 10 years is a long time and they weren't really red anymore. LOL So with me being the shoe fanatic, and I have this guilty obsession with cowgirl boots.......I found the perfect combination to honor my dad! 

These were the rings that James had given the boys during our ceremony. We seen the day as the day we all became family. It just wasn't a union between us. James had a vow he said to the boys when he gave them each a ring also. 

I had hankies made for my mother in law and our grandmothers.

All the guys wore Chucks! That's Jame's thing!. LOL

My bridesmaids wanted to go with my boot theme!

I'm not sure why but I really wanted a wedding cake that was different. And my little peacocks were perfect!! I found these at Michael's on a Christmas clearance. And the cake stand was found at Marshall's for $12. It was perfect!

I asked James what kind of theme he wanted for his grooms cake , and I got a big I DON'T KNOW. So being that the movie Steel Magnolias is one of my all time favorites....I suggested A BLEEDIN ARMIDILLA GROOM CAKE! He laughed and said PERFECT! I still can't believe he knew what I was talking about. But OH BOY the comments made about this cake.....It was a HIT!!!!

I love this picture of him! This was right after our I do's.

 This was my bridesmaid Melissa and I's Homemade redneck wine glasses. These became a big hit with weddings after ours. But there's nothing really to them to make.

Our Popcorn Bar! This was just a little treat for everyone to snack on while waiting or to take home.

These green goblets were James's grandmothers. She wasn't able to make the long trip here that day, but I thought they were perfect for the vintage theme centerpieces. 

And one of my favorite details of my wedding......The Blue Mason Jars! Hard to find but every table had at least one. Gorgeous!
